Our soccer coach shared a testimony with me the other day. She told me how our goalie, a pretty competitive young lady, let a ball get by her for a goal. While she was evidently frustrated and disappointed with herself, she did something different: she took a moment, knelt down in the goal and said a quick prayer. Not for show, but just doing what came naturally.
And that silent prayer spoke volumes. See, last year, this same opponent (a ‘Christian’ school) took to the field full of vicious, hateful words for our girls, calling them “criminals” and “rehab kids”. But this year, they had different things to say. Their coach came up and apologized for their past behavior. This time, their girls were excited to play our team, and only had complimentary things to say. All because one girl took a moment to do what came naturally.
It’s that easy. So often, we’re afraid or we don’t take the time to lift up our Father. We don’t bow our head in the restaurant or share testimony of God’s blessings. Yet, his command is simple: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
We don’t have to be a preacher or evangelist to impact people for Christ. If a little girl can impact a whole team by taking a few seconds to do what comes naturally, shouldn’t we be able to do much more?
